Go Cuba! honors nine new Cuban film projects

World Cinema Amsterdam had already announced the project during its most recent edition this August: Go Cuba! - an initiative through which the festival aims to financially support independent Cuban filmmakers. Many applied, nine of these applications were honored. Their names were made public on December 8 during the Havana International Film Festival.

Photo report: Closing Night

Last saturday (22 August) the closing night of our sixth edition in Rialto took place. First there was the Award Ceremony. The jury was unanimous in their decision: Necktie Youth from director Sibs Shongwe-La Mer won the World Cinema Amsterdam Jury Award 2015. After the ceremony everyone enjoyed the party organised by Caribbean Creativity: Yard Vibes. Melanie Lemahieu was there to capture the night.

Thursday 20 August we screened the Cuban film Todo se van at the Marie Heinekenplein. Tonight (21 August) you can enjoy a delighftul and graceful comedy which attracted over 1.5 million viewers in Peru: A los 40. This evening will be amazing again because of the Peruvian music of DJ Ishtar and the foodtrucks. Yesterday there was also in Rialto a lot to do. For example: the Q&A with Donald Mugisha from The Boda Boda Thieves. You can watch The Boda Boda Thieves tonight in De Balie (19:15h).

Wednesday (19 August) finally the first Open Air screening at the Marie Heinekenplein took place. It was a great success: good music, cold drinks, delicious bites fromt the foodtrucks and offcourse a beautiful film. You can enjoy World Cinema Open Air at the Marie Heinekenplein till saturday. Meanwhile in Rialto: the Dutch premier of the impressive film Necktie Youth from director Sibs Shongwe-La Mer took place. Romee van de Ven shot some nice pics.
