Film festival expands with two new locations

Besides the familiar main locations Rialto and Marie Heinekenplein, this year our films will also screen in De Balie and at the Vondelpark Open Air Theatre.

Rialto, on the Ceintuurbaan, is the main venue of the festival. And the Rialto Café is, as always, stays the place for lively celebrations and gatherings. Here the visitor can chat, drink, dance and meet directors from all over the world.

This year, all our titles in the competition program will also be screend by De Balie (Kleine Gartmanplantsoen, near the Leidseplein).

As with previous editions, World Cinema Amsterdam Open Air takes place at the Marie Heinekenplein from 15/18 August. An outdoor event with film, summer drinks and DJs. You can visit the square for (free) four new films. With this year the Moroccan film Death for Sale of Faouzi Ben Saidi, Xingu by the Brazilian filmmaker Cao Hamburger and Mia by the Argentine filmmaker Javier of the Couter.

Besides Marie Heinekenplein, this year there are also outdoor screenings at the George Gershwin'splein at the Zuidas, in the open air theater in the Vondelpark and the VU campus (due to the opening of the academic year). In the Vondelpark and the George Gershwinplein, the very successful O Palhaço (The Clown) of Selton Mello will be screened, a subtle and tragicomic portrait of a father and son, both clown. In Brazil, the film attracted 1.5 million visitors.
